Element of Natural
&
                 Built Environment

Element of Natural and Built Environment is the study of two major components. These two major components are NATURAL and BUILT ENVIRONMENT. The emphasis will focus on the symbiotic relationship between these two components. Students are required to experience nature and built environment through site visit. The aim of the site visit is help the students to enhance their feelings and understanding of the two components of this subject.

The 4 TEACHING OBJECTIVES for this module are:

  • To create awareness of the elements of the natural and built environment
  • To expose the elements of the natural and built environment in their basic unit, form and function
  • To show symbiotic relationship  of the elements of the natural and built environment
  • To question, analyse and artculate the impact between natural and built environment
The 5 intended LEARNING OUTCOMES for this module are:
  • To recognize and identify the different elements of natural and built environment
  • To describe the different characteristics of the natural and built environment
  • To differentiate and compare the different development of the built environment
  • To analyse and evaluate the different development of the built environment
  • Understand how to communicate ideas through observation

PROJECT 1: Representing Nature-The Habitat Infographic Poster
Students are required to participate in a site visit that take place in Riverstone Eco Resort in this project.
The main tasks of this project are to explore, experience, and appreciate the natural habitat during their site visit. Students have to record the things that excite their senses, the surrounding and activities and lastly record and explore the 10x10m site. This project is divided into two parts which are group and individual parts.

PROJECT 1: Representing Nature-The Group Video

REFLECTION

I think that this project is meaningful. Why do i say so? This is because we are given a precious chance to further understand the nature and built environment  in detail through the site visit. Nowadays advanced technologies are developed especially internet. We can almost gain all the desire information by surfing on the net at present. However, there are numerous of things that we are not able to feel and understand deeply by surfing on the net. There is less relationship between words and feelings. For example,is introducing a 5 stars hotel to ,had used plenty of words to describe and praise the particular hotel but can only understand the hotel roughly becausedoes not go and experience the particular hotel by himself.  This shows that sometimes all the words in the world can't describe a single feeling. At the end of this assignment, I am able to achieve both of the learning outcomes for this assignment because I am able to recognize and identify the natural and built environment and describe their different characteristics by carry out some attentive observation and the 5 senses(see, smell, taste, hear, feel)

PROJECT 2: BUILT ENVIRONMENT-The City Representation

The model of underground city

The model with the presentation board

REFLECTION
Although we get a low grade for this assignment but we think that it is quite good because we know what we do and the function and details of all the little pieces of paper and building. We do face many challenge in doing this assignment since we built this model according to the given scale. At the end of this assignment, I realized that teamwork and team spirit are crucial in making a good model.

THE JOURNAL

The aim of the “The Journal” is as a medium for students to record ideas, information, their investigation and references. There are 5 journals and each of them carries 20 marks. The total marks will be 100 and it will be converted into 20 percents afterwards. The journal requires students to record and present their findings through "visual-note taking" technique. It enables students to learn more technique and ways to present their idea and make their idea talk by itself.

JOURNAL 1- WILDLIFE CONSERVATION

Students are required to do a research on how to conserve the wildlife in journal 2.

JOURNAL 2- SYMBIOTIC RELATIONSHIP IN NATURE

Students are required to explore about animal symbiotic relationship or plant symbiotic relationship in nature in journal 2.

JOURNAL 3- CAPTURING PUBLIC SPACES

Students are required to go on a site visit to Kuala Lumpur with their group mates during their free time to observe, experience and capture public places in Kuala Lumpur by public transportation in journal 3.

JOURNAL 4- COVER MONTAGE

Students are required to create a montage for THE JOURNAL cover in journal 4 and the cover should be inserted into the clear plastic layer provided by the cover of folder.

The montage that explains the elements in built environment
